New Family Doula, LLC
NICU and Premature Babies - Richmond, Va
I think most expectant families have a picture of what their journey from conception to new family will be like.
For most families things go as expected. Occasionally the plan goes off course with unexpected circumstances.
For any number of reasons moms and babies are not discharged on the same day.
This can be a very traumatic time for a new family.
I can be there to support your family as you adjust to your unexpected circumstances.
For mom this could mean a traumatic birth that lengthens her recovery making settling in at home more difficult.
For a new baby this could mean birth complications, prematurity, multiple births (twins, triplets, quads), medical issues that would include a NICU stay for baby. As your postpartum doula I can be there to assist at home.
If your breastfed baby is currently hospitalized, I am just a phone call away to help you formulate a plan to help you maintain your milk supply and help baby re-establish breastfeeding when he is well.
Many NICU babies are discharged from the hospital before breastfeeding has been well established. New moms are expected to "work on it" after they are discharged. I can come to your home and help you transition your baby to full breastfeeding with my in-home lactation services
If your baby is still in the NICU we can work together to help set the groundwork for successful breastfeeding.
Please take a few minutes now, before your baby is discharged, to call for a free phone consult so we can begin to establish a post discharge plan.
I am a postpartum doula with over 29 years as a registered nurse in a newborn intensive care unit and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for over 19 years working with parents and NICU babies as they learn to breastfeed. This experience can be invaluable in assisting your whole family.
